Project Description

The Coyote Village Residential Housing Project, located in Vermillion, South Dakota is a 175 unit, 4 level housing complex for the University of South Dakota.  Stockwell Engineers was retained by Ambling University Development Group to provide engineering services for the 15 acre project site.  The housing project has been designed as a LEED® Certified building that ultimately earned a Gold rating by the United States Green Building Council.   

Stockwell Engineers presented the project to the City of Vermillion Planning Commission and were approved a zoning change for the property.  Stockwell Engineers coordinated with City Staff to create a Planned Development district for the complex to accommodate for its unique usage.   

Design services included a site grading, utility, erosion control, pavement and jointing plans for the proposed project.  Utility plans included design for a storm sewer conveyance system, sanitary sewer and potable waterline.  The concrete parking lot and emergency fire lanes were designed to accommodate relatively flat slopes while maintaining positive drainage throughout the site.   An aggressive construction schedule for this 21 million dollar design/build housing complex began In September of 2009 and was completed in time for the 2010-2011 school year.
