Sanford Center - Phase 1
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Owner
Sanford Health
Project Description
In 2009, Sanford Health purchased a 13 acre site in Northeast Sioux Falls, SD with plans to expand their research facilities. The site included an existing building and open grass fields, both of which were on the list of improvements by Sanford Health. While the building was being updated to accommodate Sanford’s research employees, Stockwell Engineers, Inc. teamed up with Sanford’s construction administration team to renovate the surrounding land.
To begin, two new asphalt access roads and parking lots, including curb and gutter, were built to accommodate the employees and visitors. One access road, on the South side of the site, was also equipped with a security gate. Pedestrian trials made of crushed concrete were also added alongside the access roads and around the perimeter of the site for employee use.
Storm sewer was also an important aspect of the site so 2,130 feet of storm sewer and two on-site storm water detention basins were placed to correctly drain the site and collect runoff accordingly. The total system is designed for a five-year event.
The next step in the land renovation was landscaping. Sod and irrigation was placed on approximately 10 acres of the site and around 1,000 trees were planted on three sides of the building for a natural barrier.
Finally, to put the finishing touches on the site, Stockwell Engineers, Inc. teamed with an Electrical Engineering Consultant to provide street lights, power for vendors during events, and power to the security gate on the South entrance
