Project Description
This football complex is utilized by a variety of user groups in the Sioux Falls area. The Sioux Falls School District realized the demand for more events and other uses. Howard Wood Field is used for band events, soccer and football of all ages. The turf is now being used on a daily basis in the Spring and Fall. This project involved the removal of the existing irrigation system and excavation to the revised grades. The existing underdrain piping system was utilized for the Field Turf surfacing. Ten to twelve inches of drainage rock and choking layer was installed to a 1/4” per foot tolerance resulting in a uniform grade for installation of the Field Turf. The Field Turf was then installed as it appears today. The turf is proving to be a durable product for the extended uses of Howard Wood Field. The project construction was funded by donations from the public, local contractors and area businesses.
