Broadway Street

When the City of Larchwood wanted to completely rebuild their downtown main street to include streetscape features, landscaping, and wider sidewalks they came to Stockwell Engineers. Stockwell proposed narrowing the driving lanes from a total of 45’ to 30’ in order to incorporate more pedestrian space closer to the businesses. Bump-outs were created at each intersection in order to increase pedestrian safety and create nodes of interest through landscaping and new streetscape features and furnishings. Stockwell helped the city create a new logo and unifying element centered around the history of Larchwood and the larch tree. This element is now located throughout the downtown streetscape and acts as signage where Broadway St. intersects Hwy. 9 (the main road through Larchwood) in order to draw people into downtown. Now completed, the City of Larchwood has a downtown streetscape unlike anything else in the area.
