The University of South Dakota turned to Stockwell Engineers to evaluate and assist them with their infrastructure planning throughout campus. The project included developing comprehensive plans for their sub-surface utilities, sidewalk, landscape and irrigation needs. The scope of the project was to investigate these systems and provide recommendations for improvements. Extensive research of record drawings and campus maps was conducted to establish an inventory of their systems. On site evaluations of student movements and an existing inventory of plant species on campus aided in developing a sidewalk and landscape master plan for the entire campus. Plant species were researched and carefully selected to create a hierarchy of spaces on campus and increase biodiversity. Plants were selected based on the school colors, bloom time, and fall color in order to maximize the appeal and appearance of the landscaping for the spring and the fall when students and families were on campus. Stockwell Engineers worked alongside with University staff to determine priorities and coordinate budgets that were incorporated into the phasing plan. With the expertise provided by our company, the University of South Dakota has now almost completely implemented the improvements laid out in the infrastructure plan.
