Stockwell Engineers expertly transformed the B-Y Water District’s outdated water distribution model into a cutting-edge OpenFlows WaterGEMS system, showcasing our expertise in delivering innovative engineering solutions. By meticulously digitizing legacy paper records and integrating experiential knowledge from past staff, we created a robust GIS-based model that ensures seamless access to critical system information. This modernized platform not only preserves institutional knowledge but also serves as an effective succession tool, empowering the district with reliable, long-term data management.
Spanning approximately 2,250 square miles, the B-Y Water District’s extensive network includes over 2,700 miles of pipelines, serving three adjacent rural water systems, 5,300 users across 11 counties, and 13 towns, including the City of Mitchell. To address the complexity of this vast system, Stockwell Engineers utilized SCADA trends and real-time data to calibrate the WaterGEMS model, ensuring it accurately reflects real-world conditions. Completed in 2023, this dynamic tool is used daily by B-Y staff and our team to assess system performance, identify deficiencies, plan capital projects, and develop interim operational strategies.
A biproduct, and standout feature, of the project is an 8’x12’ wall map, prominently displayed at the B-Y Water District’s Board Room. This visually striking tool enhances project progress meetings and monthly board discussions, providing a clear, comprehensive overview of the system.
