The City of Yankton turned to Stockwell to lead a team, including nationally and internationally renowned aquatic facility designer Water Technology, to completely re-envision the community’s aging Memorial Park pool.
Before designing the facility, Stockwell led extensive site analysis of the existing infrastructure and conducted multiple stakeholder and public meetings to gather input from over 300 community members throughout the design. The final master plan truly responds to the wants and needs of the community while balancing not only up-front costs but what it takes to maintain the facility.
Orienting the entrance to the facility directly to the southeast draws viewsheds to the Veteran’s Memorial in the heart of the park. Landscape berms along the roadways to the north and west provide privacy to the residential neighbors across the road and keeping the extensive canopy of mature trees on the east side of the facility provide plenty of shade for aquatic facility users.
