Stockwell provided surveying, civil design, landscape architecture, and construction staking services for the BG Dean Mann Readiness Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Designed to meet all AFTP (Anti-Terrorism Force Protection) standards, the project involved thoughtful planning, coordination, and execution across all phases.

Stormwater management was integrated into the overall design with a retention pond that not only handles runoff from the site but also supports long-term irrigation needs. By capturing and reusing stormwater, the system reduces demand on public utilities and contributes to the project’s sustainability goals.

Vehicular circulation was carefully planned to support the facility’s operations. The site includes a paved parking area for privately owned vehicles (POV) and a separate, gravel-surfaced motor pool for government-owned vehicles (GOV), ensuring both functionality and durability. The layout was designed in accordance with security and access control requirements outlined in AFTP guidelines.

Our in-house landscape team developed a landscape plan that enhanced both the functionality and appearance of the site. Native plantings and low-maintenance materials were selected to reduce upkeep while meeting force protection criteria. Strategic placement of large boulders along building perimeters and access points provided a natural-looking security barrier. Each boulder was sized, spaced, and set to comply with AFTP vehicle standoff distances, blending safety with aesthetics.

The Readiness Center project reflects our team’s ability to bring together civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying expertise to deliver secure, efficient, and well-integrated site solutions.
